AI assistants (MCP)

Connect Brickato to your AI assistant

Brickato's MCP server lets AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code Copilot and Claude Code read your Brickato projects with your own permissions. Answers cite their sources, with a link back to the page in Brickato.

Server URL

https://mcp.brickato.com/api/mcp

Sign in with your Brickato account. On the consent page you choose the organization and the access level: Read only, or Read and create tasks.

How to connect

Every assistant follows the same pattern: add Brickato as a remote MCP server, paste the server URL, and sign in. The exact details for each assistant are in Brickato under Settings → Connected AI assistants. Use those, since they can change.

  1. Claude (web and desktop)

Add Brickato as a custom connector in Claude's connector settings, paste the server URL, then sign in to Brickato when prompted.

  2. ChatGPT

Add Brickato as a connector in ChatGPT's settings with the server URL, then sign in. Whether you can add custom connectors depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.

  3. Cursor

Add a new MCP server in Cursor's MCP settings, set the server URL, then sign in to Brickato when Cursor asks.

  4. VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

Add an HTTP MCP server in VS Code with the server URL, then sign in to Brickato when prompted. Brickato's tools appear in Copilot agent mode.

  5. Claude Code

Add Brickato as an HTTP MCP server with the server URL, then sign in from Claude Code's MCP menu. The full command is shown in Settings → Connected AI assistants.

Once connected, ask about a project in plain language. The assistant calls Brickato's tools, and each answer links to the document page it came from.

What the assistant can use

Every tool reads your projects, except propose_task, which drafts a task. Nothing is created until you confirm it in Brickato, and only on a connection with "Read and create tasks" access. An assistant cannot change, delete or upload anything else.

  • list_projects

Lists the Brickato projects you can access.

  • get_project_overview

Returns an overview of one project.

  • list_documents

Lists the documents in a project.

  • search

Searches a project's documents and returns matching passages with citations.

  • fetch

Returns the full text of a search result, with a link to its page in Brickato.

  • query_boq

Looks up items, quantities and prices in a project's bill of quantities.

  • get_contract_risks

Returns the contract risks Brickato found in a project's documents.

  • get_schedule

Returns a project's schedule activities and dates.

  • get_cross_references

Returns references between a project's documents, such as a clause that points to a drawing.

  • list_tasks

    Lists a project's tasks.

  • propose_task

Creates a task suggestion. Nothing is created until you confirm it in Brickato.

Permissions

  • Every call runs as you. The assistant sees only the projects and data your Brickato role allows.
  • Confidential documents stay hidden unless your role can read them.
  • Organization admins can turn MCP off for the whole organization, and can see and revoke every member's connections.
  • You can revoke your own connections at any time in Settings → Connected AI assistants.
  • A revoked connection is refused on its next request.
  • Removing someone from the organization cuts off their access.

How your data is handled

  • Brickato data you request passes through the AI provider you chose (Anthropic, OpenAI, GitHub and Microsoft, or Cursor) under that provider's terms.
  • Brickato does not use MCP traffic to train models.
  • Every tool call is logged for audit: the user, the assistant, the tool, the project and the outcome.
  • You cannot upload files over MCP. Upload documents in the Brickato app.

Questions

Can an AI assistant see projects I cannot see in Brickato?
No. Every call runs with your own Brickato permissions, so the assistant sees the same projects and documents you do, and nothing more.
Can an AI assistant change anything in Brickato?
Only by drafting a task, on a connection you gave "Read and create tasks" access. The task is created only after you confirm it in Brickato. Every other tool is read-only.
How do I disconnect an assistant?
Open Settings → Connected AI assistants in Brickato and revoke it. Organization admins can also revoke any member's connection or turn MCP off for the organization.
